Should You Choose A Plain Veil?

Well, that all depends on your personal taste. Or that should be what you’re guided by, anyway. We speak to a lot of brides on a daily basis and get the sense sometimes that they’re only choosing a plain veil in order to “play it safe”. Their dress is really detailed and they simply daren’t add any more. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. “Less is More” has been a key phrase to live by in fashion for many years now. And it’s the right choice in a lot of cases. However, before you go and choose a plain veil, make sure you give the other available options — typically beading or lace — at least a passing glance. Sometimes a lace dress paired with a lace veil can be absolutely stunning. And a few subtly scattered diamantes never hurt anyone. It’s just a case of choosing the right lace/beading and the right amount. Don’t only get a plain veil simply because you’re scared to try anything else.

When Is A Plain Veil the Right Choice?

When that’s your style. A question we ask a lot of our brides during their veil consultation appointments is “are you a naturally sparkly/blingy person?”. Which, now that we think about it is a strange question indeed! But what we mean by it is, if, on a daily basis, you would never consider wearing anything sparklier than a pair of small studded earrings, then having a super-glitzy, over-the-top wedding veil is not going to make you feel comfortable at all. If this is the kind of gal you are, it’s likely you’ve also opted for a chic and simple dress as well and so a plain veil would make total sense for your ensemble.

A plain veil may also be a good option if you have an unusual dress. We’ve been seeing a lot of striped and geometric dresses coming through for 2020, and in this instance, floral lace definitely wouldn’t work. Beading? Yes, that would be okay as well. But a plain veil definitely lets an eye-catching dress be the star of the show.

Other Benefits Of A Plain Veil

Along with the stylistic choices mentioned above, another thing that could be a factor in your decision is the price. Naturally, a veil without embellishments costs less than one that does. So if you have your heart set on a long veil but a limited budget, a plain veil could be the way to make that happen. The other thing is the weight. If you’re looking for a veil you won’t even feel in your hair, then a plain veil would also be the best option.
